Protect your people, property and business with a professional, compliant Fire Risk Assessment.

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A Fire Risk Assessment is a legal requirement designed to identify fire hazards, evaluate risks to people, and ensure appropriate fire safety measures are in place.

It protects lives, property, and your business by identifying what needs to be done to prevent fire and minimise harm should one occur.

A professional Fire Risk Assessment provides a clear, practical roadmap to compliance and safer premises.

Do I Need a Fire Risk Assessment?

If you are a business owner, landlord, managing agent, or the Responsible Person, you are legally required to have a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

This applies to:

  • Commercial premises
  • Residential blocks and HMOs
  • Industrial and manufacturing sites
  • Shops, offices, schools, and care settings

Failure to comply can result in enforcement action, prosecution, invalidated insurance, or serious risk to life.

Insurance requirements

Most insurers require a current and compliant Fire Risk Assessment as a condition of cover. Inadequate or outdated assessments can lead to:

  • Reduced or refused claims
  • Increased premiums
  • Policy invalidation

A Bluepoint Fire Safety assessment provides documented evidence of compliance that insurers and enforcing authorities expect.

How We Carry Out Your Fire Risk Assessment

At Bluepoint Fire Safety, we provide tailored solutions for your business.

Following an initial consultation to gather key information, an assessor will provide a firm quotation and arrange a site visit to carry out a comprehensive fire risk assessment of your premises.

A typical site visit will:

  • Identify potential fire hazards – Locate sources of ignition (such as electrical equipment, heaters, fuel, and cooking processes), sources of fuel (including paper, furniture, and chemicals), and sources of oxygen. Other processes carried out on the premises.
  • Identify people at risk – Occupants of the premises, including those especially at risk in the event of a fire. Employees, visitors, contractors, any vulnerable individuals and those who are especially at risk because of the work they do.
  • Review existing fire safety measures –  fire alarms, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, escape routes, fire exits, signage, means to limit fire spread and development of fire, staff training, emergency action plan, testing and maintenance of fire protection measures, and record keeping.

A Bluepoint Fire Safety assessment provides documented evidence of compliance that insurers and enforcing authorities expect.

Fire Risk Assessment Report

After processing, a detailed report is provided that is clear, easy to understand, and includes actionable recommendations to support compliance with regulations.

The report includes:

  • A summary of significant findings – A clear overview of the key fire hazards and issues identified during the assessment.
  • A prioritised action plan – Clear, practical recommendations with suggested timescales, enabling you to address the most critical issues first.
  • Details of existing fire safety measures – An evaluation of current provisions such as fire alarms, emergency lighting, and fire extinguishers, including their condition and suitability.
  • Emergency procedures and staff training guidance – Advice on evacuation procedures, emergency arrangements, and recommended staff training requirements.

Post-report support – We provide ongoing guidance and support to the Responsible Person, helping ensure the action plan is implemented effectively and fire safety compliance is confidently maintained.

Competent, Accredited & Fully Compliant

The individual carrying out the fire risk assessment will be able to demonstrate that they are competent to provide fire risk assessments of a consistently high standard.

This shall be evidenced by the following:

  • The fire risk assessor is third-party certificated under an appropriate scheme by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM), a UKAS-accredited certification body.
  • The fire risk assessor is listed on the National Fire Risk Assessors Register, a recognised professional register.
  • The fire risk assessor meets the required competency standards set out in BS 8674: Built environment – Framework for competence of individual fire risk assessors – Code of practice.
  • Where the supplier has obtained quality assurance certification for organisations or individuals providing life safety fire risk assessment services through a UKAS-accredited certification body, this shall be accepted as evidence that appropriate technical and management competencies are in place to undertake life safety fire risk assessments in accordance with:
  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005
  • The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 (as applicable)
  • The fire risk assessor shall hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • The fire risk assessor shall hold a NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety.

How Much Does a Fire Risk Assessment Cost?

The cost of a Fire Risk Assessment varies depending on several factors, including:

  • Building size
  • Complexity
  • Risk level
  • Presence of specialised hazards

For example, a small, simple office, shop, or industrial unit will cost significantly less than a large, multi-storey factory with complex processes that require a more detailed assessment.

As a guide, prices typically range from £200 for a simple office building to £300 for an industrial unit with basic processes.

Fire Risk Assessment reviews are available at a substantially discounted rate.

All prices quoted are fixed and fully inclusive, with no hidden fees.

Reviewing Your Fire Risk Assessment

While the law does not specify a fixed timescale, it clearly requires that assessments are kept up to date to reflect any changes to the premises or how they are used. This means that a review is an ongoing process.

As a matter of best practice, the assessment should be reviewed at least annually to ensure nothing has been overlooked and that control measures remain effective.

It must also be reviewed immediately following any significant change, such as alterations to the building layout, the introduction of new machinery or hazardous substances, changes in occupancy levels, or after a fire or near-miss incident.
